Exporting a template
You can export your Inspector Studio templates to share them with other Inspector Studio users, back them up, or use them as a starting point in another account. Exported templates are saved as a structured file that can be imported back into any Inspector Studio organization.
When to export a template
Sharing with another company. If you want to give your template to a colleague who has their own Inspector Studio account, export it and send them the file.
Backup. Exporting gives you an offline copy of your template structure before making significant changes.
Moving between accounts. If you are migrating from a demo or test organization to your production account, export templates from the old account and import them into the new one.
Exporting a template
Go to Templates and open the template you want to export.
Click the options menu (three-dot icon) at the top of the template.
Select Export Template.
Choose a file format if prompted (Inspector Studio's native format is the default).
The file downloads to your device.
What the export includes
The exported file contains the complete template structure:
All sections, groups, and items
All questions with their answer types and options
All trigger rules
All deficiency entries and their default severities
All narrative text
Template settings (section types, required flags, defaults)
Photos are not included in template exports — only the text and structure.
Sharing the exported file
Send the exported file to another Inspector Studio user who can import it into their account using the template import flow. See Importing a template for how the recipient uses the file.
What is not exported
Reports created from the template (only the template structure is exported)
Photo routing / automation configurations (these reference your specific template IDs and must be reconfigured after import)
Organization-specific settings
Export format compatibility
The native Inspector Studio export format is designed for import back into Inspector Studio. It is not directly compatible with other inspection software formats. If you need to use a template with different software, contact support about conversion options.
