Importing a template
If you have an existing inspection template from another inspection software, Inspector Studio can import it so you do not have to rebuild your template from scratch. Here is how importing works and what to expect.
What can be imported
Inspector Studio supports importing templates from several inspection software formats. The import process reads the structure — sections, groups, questions, answer options, deficiencies, and narratives — and converts it into an Inspector Studio template.

Starting an import
Go to Templates in the left navigation.
Click Import Template.
Follow the on-screen steps:
Choose the source format (the software your template comes from).
Upload the template file.
Review the import preview.
Confirm the import.
The import preview
Before the import is finalized, Inspector Studio shows you a preview of what was found in the file — how many sections, items, questions, and deficiencies were detected. Review this to catch obvious problems (for example, if the section count is much lower than expected, something may not have parsed correctly).
After importing
The imported template appears in your template list in Draft status. Before using it for real inspections, go through it in the template editor and:
Review section and item names for accuracy.
Check question wording and answer options.
Verify deficiency descriptions and severity levels.
Add or adjust anything that did not import cleanly.
Not every element from every format imports perfectly. The import gets you 90% of the way there — plan to spend some time cleaning up the remaining 10% in the editor before publishing the template.
Publishing after import
Once you are satisfied with the imported template, publish it from the template editor. Published templates can be selected when creating a new report. Draft templates cannot.
Duplicating an existing template
If you want to create a variation of one of your existing templates (for example, a condo-specific version of your standard residential template), use Duplicate instead of importing. Open the template, click the options menu, and select Duplicate. The copy is editable immediately.
