Setting up payment processing
Before your customers can pay invoices online, you need to connect a payment processor to your Inspector Studio account. Inspector Studio uses Stripe to handle online card payments securely. Stripe is a widely used payment platform — you do not need prior experience with it to get set up.
What you will need
A bank account to receive payouts (checking account at a US bank).
Your business's legal name, address, and tax ID (EIN or SSN for sole proprietors).
A few minutes to complete Stripe's identity verification.
Connecting Stripe
Go to Settings → Payments.
Click Connect with Stripe.
Inspector Studio will open the Stripe onboarding flow. You will be asked to:
Enter your business information (name, address, business type).
Provide your bank account details for payouts.
Verify your identity (Stripe requires this to comply with financial regulations).
Complete the Stripe onboarding steps and return to Inspector Studio.
Once connected, your Stripe account is linked and the Pay Now button on invoices becomes active. Customers can immediately begin paying online.
Stripe account vs. Inspector Studio account
Your Stripe account is separate from your Inspector Studio account. You can log in to the Stripe dashboard directly at any time to see your transaction history, manage payouts, issue refunds, and view your balance. Inspector Studio gives you a view of payments tied to your bookings; Stripe is the source of truth for your actual funds.
Payout timing
Stripe typically transfers funds to your bank account on a 2-day rolling basis after a payment clears. For example, a payment received on Monday is generally deposited on Wednesday. The exact timing depends on your Stripe account settings and bank.
What if I already have a Stripe account?
If you have an existing Stripe account from another product or service, you can connect that same account. When the Stripe onboarding flow appears, choose Sign in instead of creating a new account and log in with your existing Stripe credentials.
Verifying your connection
After setup, go to Settings → Payments and confirm your connection status shows as Connected. Send a test invoice to yourself (using your own email address) and click the payment link to confirm the checkout page loads correctly.
Disconnecting Stripe
To disconnect your Stripe account from Inspector Studio, go to Settings → Payments and click Disconnect. Existing payment records are not affected, but customers will no longer be able to pay invoices online until you reconnect.
