Using the report editor

Updated June 18, 2026

The report editor is where you write and build the content of an inspection report. It is designed to be used in the field or at the office — on a laptop, tablet, or phone. Here is an orientation to the interface.

Opening the report editor

  1. Open a booking.

  2. Go to the Reports section.

  3. Click Open Editor next to the report you want to edit. If no report exists yet, click Create Report and choose the report type.

The editor opens in a dedicated full-screen view.

The editor layout

The editor has three main areas:

  • Left sidebar — navigation. A collapsible list of all the sections in the report. Click any section to jump to it. Sections with deficiencies are marked so you can see at a glance where issues were found.

  • Main content area. The section you are currently editing. Scroll down to work through the items in order, or use the sidebar to jump around.

  • Top toolbar. Save status, publish controls, and access to report settings.

Sections and items

The report is organized into sections (major categories like Electrical, Plumbing, Roofing). Inside each section are items — the individual things being inspected. Items can be questions with structured answers, narrative text blocks, deficiency entries, or limitation notes.

See Sections, systems, and rooms for a deeper explanation of how the report structure works.

Auto-saving

The editor auto-saves your work as you go. You will see a save status indicator in the top toolbar showing the last save time. You do not need to manually save between items — just keep working.

Adding systems and rooms

For sections like Heating & Cooling or Bathrooms, you can add multiple instances — for example, "AC Unit 1 (Split System)" and "AC Unit 2 (Mini Split)" under the HVAC section. Click Add System or Add Room within the section to create a new instance.

Navigating on mobile

On mobile, the left sidebar collapses. Tap the menu icon to open it and select a section, then close it to return to editing. Swipe up to scroll through items within a section.

Exiting the editor

Click the back arrow or navigate away when you are done. Your work is saved automatically. The report stays in Draft status until you publish it.
