Wind Mitigation inspection form

The Wind Mitigation inspection form documents construction features of a home that reduce the risk of wind damage. In Florida, homeowners submit this form to their insurance carrier to qualify for insurance premium discounts. The form is standardized by the Florida Department of Financial Services and requires both an inspector's professional signature and a customer signature.

When you need a Wind Mitigation

A homeowner or their insurance agent will request it. Wind Mitigation inspections are almost exclusively performed in Florida and other hurricane-prone states. The report must be filled out by a licensed inspector and submitted to the insurer, who uses it to calculate any applicable premium discounts.

Creating a Wind Mitigation report

1. Open the booking.

2. In the Reports section, click Create Report.

3. Select Wind Mitigation as the report type.

4. Click Create.

The form opens in the report editor with the standardized OIR-B1-1802 form layout.

The form sections

Roof covering

• Type of roof covering material

• Whether the covering meets the FBC (Florida Building Code) requirements

• Year installed (or "unknown")

• Permit number (if available — see the Permit Lookup article for how to search permits)

Roof deck attachment

• The method used to attach the roof sheathing to the rafters (6d nails, 8d nails, clips, etc.)

• Verification method (visual inspection through attic, photo evidence, etc.)

Roof-to-wall connection

• The type of connection between the roof structure and the wall framing (toenail, clips, single wraps, double wraps, structural anchors)

Roof shape

• Hip, gable, flat, or other roof geometry

Opening protection

• Whether windows, doors, and skylights have rated protection (shutters, impact glass, etc.)

• Type of protection and compliance level

Photos are essential

Insurance carriers require specific photos to accept a Wind Mitigation form. Required photos typically include:

• Roof deck and attachment method (from the attic)

• Roof-to-wall connections (from the attic)

• Roof shape from all four elevations

• Window and door protection (shutters, labels on impact glass, etc.)

• Any permit documentation

Attach photos directly to each section in the form.

Customer signature

Wind Mitigation reports require the customer to sign. After you have completed and reviewed the form:

1. Publish the report (or save it as ready for signature).

2. Send the customer a message with a link to their portal.

3. The customer reviews and signs the form electronically through the portal.

4. The signed form is available for download as a PDF once signed.

The insurance carrier requires the signed copy. Share the signed PDF with the customer or their agent after signature is complete.
